The Bobcats came into the Windy City on Tuesday night with the odds stacked against them. With four of their players (Kareem Rush, Emeka Okafor, Melvin Ely and Jake Voskuhl) at home in Charlotte due to injury, the Bobcats needed the rest of the squad to come up big in order to come out with a victory.
The team responded as they defeated the Bulls, 105-92, to win their second consecutive game and record their third victory in their last four outings. It is the first time in franchise history the Bobcats have won back-to-back road contests.
With Okafor and Rush out, rookies Raymond Felton and Sean May got the call with Felton making his third start and May being inserted into the starting line-up for the first time.
Felton who teamed with Brevin Knight in the backcourt, had one of the finest performances of his young career, recording a season-high 21 points and six assists. Together, the starting guard duo of Knight and Felton combined for 41 points and 16 assists.
But it wasn't only Knight and Felton who led the Bobcats to victory as the team had six players finish in double-figures.
Charlotte showed its fight early on, making six of its first 10 shots to build a five-point advantage. Primoz Brezec, fresh off a season-high 26 point performance on Monday, carried the momentum into Tuesday's game, recording nine points and four rebounds in the first frame.
After a strong start, the Bobcats continued to light it up from the field connecting on 68.4 percent (13-19) of their shots in the first quarter. Even though the Bulls were able to pull within one, Charlotte's efficiency from the field enabled the Bobcats to not only to maintain the lead but extend it. A layup by Bernard Robinson as time expired gave the Bobcats an eight-point advantage (36-28) at the end of one.
The Bobcats would not relinquish the lead they built in the first as they continued to attack the Bulls from every angle. It was in the second quarter that Felton and Knight began to establish themselves. After just scoring just three points in the first quarter, Knight and Felton combined for 12 points in the second quarter.
Holding a four-point advantage with 43-39 at the 7:52 mark in the second quarter, the Bobcats went on a 7-2 run capped by a jumpshot by Felton to build a nine-point advantage. The Bobcats also tightened it up on the defensive end holding the Bulls without a field goal in the final 2:59 of the half to take a 57-47 lead at halftime.
The Bulls narrowed the advantage to six on several occasions in the third and again in the fourth as Ben Gordon connected on a free throw with 10:58 left in the game to make the score 78-72. The Bulls would not get any closer however as Charlotte went on a 12-5 run to build a 13-point lead with 6:55 remaining.
Gerald Wallace came up big in the closing minute recording four blocks over that span to help insure the Bobcats the win. Wallace would finish with 19 points on 5-7 shooting along with eight rebounds and five blocks.
Charlotte finished the game shooting 51.3 percent (39-76) from the field and connecting on 25-34 free throws.
Chris Duhon and Othella Harrington both finished with 16 points to pace the Bulls.
Charlotte returns home to host the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

INSIDE THE LOCKERROOM
Bobcats Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff
(On the game) I think we played well. Our small lineup really helped us. Down the stretch it kept them from penetrating and kicking the ball back out. We remembered what they did to us before when (Eric) Piatkowski was hitting those threes. Tonight we were shorthanded and we just had to put guys in and give others a breather. That did help us get some mismatches out there. The difference tonight was we made our shots after our penetration.
(Did the Bulls overlook you?) Historically, there can be a let down when a team like ours comes in shorthanded. It's been shown that guys will let down in those situations. However, Scott Skiles' teams don't let down. They play like him. They are agressive and keep coming at you. Our guys just earned this one tonight. It was a team effort. Primoz did a good job as our 'big' tonight. Sean [May] also worked very hard. Brevin (Knight) and Raymond (Felton) also did a good job hitting some big shots all night. Our intention coming in here was to go small and take them out of their game.
Bobcats Guard Brevin Knight
(On being shorthanded) The guys just stepped up tonight. Coming in here we all knew our situation. Our backs were against the wall and we just came out with high energy tonight. We made the game somewhat helter skelter and made our shots when we had to. They came out ready to play. We knew Scott (Skiles) would have them that way. We were just creative tonight. I told the guys when we went on the court to just shoot more shots tonight. We just wanted to get up and down the court. We knew being small we wouldn't be able to pound it inside. We knew we couldn't bring back that first game here. We just needed to learn from it and to finish games like we did tonight.
Bobcats Forward Gerald Wallace
(On their play tonight) We weren't intimidated by them just because of that first game. We just poorly executed at that time and didn't take care of a lead or make our shots. We weren't intimidated by their defense and learned from that tonight. We learned how to close out games like this.
