Anderson and Meeking are now the fourth and fifth players under contract with the Bobcats that played in Salt Lake City, Utah, joining guard Raymond Felton, guard/forward Bernard Robinson and forward Sean May as summer league players that will be in Bobcats training camp in October.
“We feel we have added two quality players who have a chance to contribute to our team on both ends of the court," said General Manager & Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff. “Our coaching staff has been impressed all summer with their work ethic and commitment to effort.”
Anderson, a 6-6, 220-pound guard averaged 9.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists in four seasons at Michigan State (2001-05). He ranks third all-time for career free throw percentage (.831), fifth in free throws made (379) and ninth in games started (110). He also ranks 22nd in points (1,195).
Last season he averaged 13.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 33 starts as a senior and led the Spartans to the 2005 NCAA Tournament Final Four, where they fell to eventual champion North Carolina.
Anderson was not selected in the 2005 NBA Draft in June, but participated with the Bobcats entry in the Revue. In six games, he averaged 7.7 points and 2.5 rebounds in 20.2 minutes, including his summer league high 16 points against Atlanta on July 22.
Meeking, a 6-8, 245-pound forward, spent the last two seasons in the NBA Development League with Asheville (now relocated to Tulsa) and averaged 13.9 points and 6.2 rebounds in 69 NBADL games and back-to-back NBADL Championships. Last season, his best in the league, he averaged 19.4 points and 7.7 rebounds while connecting on .510 from the field.
In six games with the Bobcats summer league team in Utah, he averaged 9.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 20.7 minutes. He reached double-figures three times, scoring 15 points against Dallas, 14 points against Seattle and 12 points against Utah.
A former standout at Louisiana Tech, Meeking was a four-year starter for the Bulldogs, completing his college career as the 11th all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,541 points. Undrafted in the 2003 NBA Draft, Meeking had brief stints in the United States Basketball League (USBL) and overseas with KK Hemofarm-Vrsac in Serbia/Montenegro.
